TransCollaborate Incorporated is a not-for-profit association formed in Victoria, Australia in April 2018. Our purpose is to promote an inclusive approach to collaborative translation, and to facilitate collaborative translation activities to provide a creative and literary outlet for non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB).

Our official documents of incorporation can be viewed here.

TransCollaborate and Monash-Warwick

TransCollaborate began as a project funded by the Monash-Warwick Alliance in 2016. This project initiated several collaborative translation activities, including workshops and individual projects, to address three specific research questions:

  • Can collaborative translation provide a platform for academic collaboration and research?
  • Can collaborative translation provide valuable English practice for EAL learners?
  • Can collaborative translation support the integration of migrants into English-speaking communities?

Our activities over the years 2016 – 2017 were presented at the TransCollaborate: a Symposium on Collaborative Translation in Prato, Italy in July 2017.

Since the conclusion of the Monash-Warwick project, our partners have been eager to apply our findings more widely. Our Australian partners have decided to incorporate as a not-for-profit organisation so that our inclusive model of collaborative translation can be pursued in community contexts with the support of local and state bodies.
