Consumer Affairs Victoria
TransCollaborate Incorporated is a not-for-profit association formed in Victoria, Australia in April 2018. Our purpose is to promote an inclusive approach to collaborative translation, and to facilitate collaborative translation activities to provide a creative and literary outlet for non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB).
TransCollaborate began as a project funded by the Monash-Warwick Alliance in 2016. This project initiated several collaborative translation activities, including workshops and individual projects, to address three specific research questions:
- Can collaborative translation provide a platform for academic collaboration and research?
- Can collaborative translation provide valuable English practice for EAL learners?
- Can collaborative translation support the integration of migrants into English-speaking communities?
Our activities over the years 2016 – 2017 were presented at the TransCollaborate: a Symposium on Collaborative Translation in Prato, Italy in July 2017.
Since the conclusion of the Monash-Warwick project, our partners have been eager to apply our findings more widely. Our Australian partners have decided to incorporate as a not-for-profit organisation, so that our inclusive model of collaborative translation can be pursued in community contexts with the support of local and state bodies. We incorporated on 13th April 2018.
Our official documents of incorporation can be viewed here.
